OUR HISTORY >>Umoe Mandal AS is a technology-driven company specializing in advanced composite materials, high-performance vessels, and complex marine components. Founded in 1988 as a purpose-built shipyard, the company has developed more than 30 years of expertise in composite Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) structures and advanced engineering solutions.
We design and deliver vessels and components for demanding naval and commercial applications, combining strong performance with low structural weight. Our work is grounded in deep competence within naval architecture and marine engineering, supported by specialized production capabilities and continuous development of materials and methods.

More than 30 years of Engineering Excellence
Umoe Mandal was founded in 1988 under the name Kværner Båtservice, with a clear focus on composite materials and specialized shipbuilding. In 1991, the company became fully owned by Kværner and established new facilities at Gismerøya in Mandal, Norway.
Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, the company designed, built, and delivered a number of pioneering naval vessels, including nine Mine Counter Measure Vessels (MCMVs) of the Alta and Oksøy class for the Royal Norwegian Navy. These all-composite vessels set new standards for survivability and performance.
From 1997 to 2013, Umoe Mandal developed and delivered the Skjold Class Fast Patrol Boats, culminating in the delivery of six Skjold-class corvettes to the Royal Norwegian Navy. These vessels introduced a unique combination of surface effect ship technology and integrated stealth solutions, and remain the fastest combat ships in the world.
In 2000, the company was acquired by Umoe Group and registered as Umoe Mandal AS. Since then, Umoe Mandal has continued to expand its portfolio through advanced vessel development, composite structures, and the WAVECRAFT series for offshore oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors.
In 2018, Umoe Mandal marked 30 years of continuous development, innovation, and delivery of high-performance vessels and composite solutions.
